UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley is riding high after defending his title and now has his eyes set on one of the division’s most dangerous contenders — Merab Dvalishvili. A second fight between the two is being heavily rumored, and if it happens, O’Malley says he’ll be more than ready.
In a recent interview, O’Malley shared his thoughts on a potential rematch with Merab and revealed that he’s currently in the best physical condition of his career.
“My body has never felt better,” O’Malley said confidently. “I’m training smarter, I’m recovering faster, and I feel stronger than ever before. If Merab is next, I’m ready to put on a show for the fans.”
A Rematch That Makes Sense
While the two haven’t fought yet officially, their names have been linked ever since Dvalishvili climbed the bantamweight rankings with his relentless pace and dominant wrestling. O’Malley, known for his elite striking and movement, presents a stylistic challenge for the Georgian fighter. After O’Malley’s win over Aljamain Sterling, and Dvalishvili’s continued dominance, fans and analysts have been calling for the matchup.
The UFC hasn’t officially announced the fight, but both camps have shown interest.
“Merab is tough. He’s got cardio for days and he’s not afraid to push the pace,” O’Malley acknowledged. “But I believe in my skills. I’ve evolved a lot since my last fight, and I think the fans are going to see a new level of the Sugar Show.”
Champ in Peak Form
O’Malley emphasized that he has taken his training and recovery more seriously than ever, working with a new strength and conditioning team and focusing on mental preparation.
“At this point in my career, it’s not just about fighting. It’s about being a complete athlete,” he said. “I’m eating clean, sleeping well, training smart — all of it. That’s why I feel better now than I ever have.”
What’s Next?
While Merab Dvalishvili is considered the likely next challenger, O’Malley remains focused on whoever the UFC puts in front of him. Still, he welcomes the challenge Merab brings.
“If it’s Merab, let’s go. If it’s someone else, I’m down for that too. I just want to keep defending the belt and giving fans exciting fights.”
Whether it’s announced tomorrow or in the months ahead, a clash between O’Malley and Dvalishvili is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated bantamweight title fights in recent years.
