In a surprising and bold career move, Indiana Fever rookie Makayla Timpson has just signed a multi-year deal with ZVVZ USK Praha, one of the top EuroLeague Women teams based in Prague, Czech Republic.
While she remains under contract with the Fever for the WNBA season, this overseas signing secures her place in European basketball during the WNBA offseason — a growing trend among American stars looking to refine their skills, earn additional income, and gain international experience.
From Tallahassee to Indiana — and Now Prague
Timpson, the 6’3” forward out of Florida State, was selected by the Fever in the second round of the 2025 WNBA Draft. Despite being a rookie, she’s turned heads with her physical presence, rebounding prowess, and hustle plays off the bench.
During her rookie season in Indiana, she averaged solid numbers in limited minutes — showing flashes of her potential on both ends of the floor. Her transition to the pro level has impressed coaches, and now she’ll have the chance to further develop in the competitive landscape of EuroLeague play.
Why USK Praha?
USK Praha is one of Europe’s most successful women’s basketball clubs. They’ve won multiple Czech league titles and are a regular contender in the EuroLeague Final Four. For Timpson, this move represents an opportunity to:
Play against top international talent
Log more minutes in a starting role
Gain experience in a different playing style
Build global recognition
In a statement posted by the club, Timpson said:
“I’m excited to join a championship-caliber team in Europe. This is a huge step in my growth as a player, and I can’t wait to bring what I learn back to the W.”
Growing Trend Among WNBA Stars
Makayla Timpson joins a growing list of WNBA players who head overseas during the fall and winter. With WNBA salaries still lagging behind their male counterparts, many athletes play in Europe or Asia to supplement their income and extend their development.
Players like Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, and Brittney Griner have all taken similar routes in the past — and for Timpson, this move could be just the thing that helps her take the next leap in her WNBA career.
What’s Next for the Fever Forward?
Timpson is expected to finish the WNBA season with the Indiana Fever and report to Prague shortly after the season ends. Her EuroLeague debut is set for October, when USK Praha opens their 2025–26 campaign.
Fever fans will no doubt be watching closely — hoping their young star returns even stronger, sharper, and more seasoned for next season.
From the WNBA to EuroLeague — Makayla Timpson is making global moves, and this might just be the beginning.
