Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White provided an encouraging update on guard Sophie Cunningham’s ankle injury, which occurred during the team’s preseason finale against the Atlanta Dream on May 10, 2025.

Cunningham, who was acquired by the Fever in a trade with the Phoenix Mercury earlier this year, sustained the injury in the third quarter of the game. Despite initial concerns, Coach White reported that the injury was not as severe as first feared.

“Sophie is doing well,” White stated. “It’s a mild sprain, and we’re optimistic about her recovery. She’s already undergoing treatment and is expected to be ready for the regular season opener.”

Cunningham’s potential absence had raised concerns, given her significant role in the Fever’s lineup. Her defensive prowess and perimeter shooting have been vital to the team’s success. However, with the positive update, it appears she will be available for the team’s season opener.
