Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, delivered a highly anticipated speech at the Saudi-U.S. Investment Forum held in Riyadh, underscoring the growing cooperation between American technology leaders and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The event, which brought together top executives, policymakers, and investors from both nations, focused on fostering innovation, advancing clean energy, and deepening strategic partnerships across emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, space, and sustainable technology.
A Vision for the Future
In his keynote address, Musk spoke candidly about the challenges and opportunities facing the world, calling for increased global collaboration in areas that will define the future—especially AI, renewable energy, and space exploration.
“Saudi Arabia is uniquely positioned to be a global leader in sustainable innovation,” Musk said. “Its investments in clean energy, advanced infrastructure, and technological education are exactly what the future demands.”
He emphasized the importance of moving away from fossil fuels and outlined Tesla’s interest in expanding operations in the Middle East, including building charging infrastructure and exploring potential manufacturing partnerships in the region.
Partnership in Space and AI
Musk also discussed the possibility of future collaborations between SpaceX and Saudi Arabia’s growing space program. He hinted at potential satellite missions and Starlink expansion that could help improve internet access across underserved regions in the Middle East and Africa.
When asked about artificial intelligence, Musk addressed the ethical responsibilities that come with the development of powerful AI models. “It’s critical that we build AI that benefits humanity, and that means working together across borders,” he said. He also mentioned that xAI, his AI startup, is in early talks with international partners, including some based in the Gulf region.
Alignment with Vision 2030
Musk’s appearance at the forum aligns with Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 plan—a national strategy to diversify its economy, reduce reliance on oil, and become a hub for technology and innovation.
Saudi officials praised Musk’s commitment to transformative technologies and welcomed the prospect of deeper cooperation. Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih said, “We are proud to host innovators like Elon Musk, who share our vision of a cleaner, smarter, and more connected future.”
A New Chapter in U.S.-Saudi Tech Relations
Musk’s presence added momentum to a forum already packed with influential figures from both countries. Alongside other U.S. tech leaders, his message was clear: the future of innovation depends on collaboration, not competition.
As Musk concluded his remarks, he left the audience with a powerful statement: “We have the tools to solve some of humanity’s biggest problems. What we need now is the will—and the partnerships—to use them wisely.”
