Rihanna Teases Highly Anticipated New Album After Eight-Year Wait While Celebrating A$AP Rocky’s Legal Victory

After nearly a decade of anticipation, Rihanna has finally confirmed that she is actively working on her long-awaited ninth studio album, R9.

The 37-year-old global superstar has not released a full album since her 2016 chart-topping record, Anti, which spawned hits like Work, Needed Me, and Love on the Brain. Fans have been eagerly awaiting new music from the We Found Love singer, with speculation and rumors swirling for years.

Now, it seems the wait is almost over.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar in a new cover story, Rihanna revealed that she has finally figured out the direction of her next album after years of uncertainty.

“I just cracked the code on what I really want to do for my next body of work. I am actually feeling really good about this. I know I kept saying this over the years,” she admitted.

According to the nine-time Grammy winner, she has spent much of the past eight years in the studio, but she was never fully satisfied with the music she had created.

“Every time, I was just like, ‘No, it’s not me. It’s not right. It’s not matching my growth. It’s not matching my evolution. I can’t do this. I can’t stand by this. I can’t perform this for a year on tour,’” she explained.

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding R9 has been its genre. Over the years, rumors have circulated that Rihanna’s new album would be heavily influenced by reggae and dancehall, but she dismissed those assumptions.

“There’s no genre now. That’s why I waited,” she clarified.

She went on to reveal that her new music will be unlike anything fans have heard before.

“It’s not going to be anything that anybody expects. And it’s not going to be commercial or radio digestible,” she teased.

Making the Wait Worth It

Rihanna understands that after an eight-year hiatus, expectations are higher than ever.

“After a while, I looked at it, and I was like, this much time away from music needs to count for the next thing everyone hears. It has to count. It has to matter,” she said.

“I have to show them the worth in the wait. I cannot put up anything mediocre. After waiting eight years, you might as well just wait some more.”

Celebrating A$AP Rocky’s Legal Victory

This exciting revelation comes as Rihanna celebrates her partner A$AP Rocky’s recent legal victory.

The rapper, born Rakim Mayers, was acquitted of all charges in a high-profile assault trial where he was accused of firing a semiautomatic firearm at his former friend and A$AP Mob associate, Terell Ephron (A$AP Relli).

Throughout the three-week trial, Rihanna was by Rocky’s side, even making rare public appearances in court with their two sons, RZA and Riot.

Now that Rocky has been cleared of all charges, it appears Rihanna is ready to fully focus on her return to music.

Elsewhere in the Harper’s Bazaar interview, Rihanna reflected on getting older and entering a new stage in life as both an artist and a mother.

“Getting old is s**, but it’s also a blessing,”* she said.

Since stepping away from music, Rihanna has expanded her empire, building her Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty brands into billion-dollar businesses. However, she admits that her biggest priority right now is being present for her children.

“My legacy is right now. That’s all I have the most control over. My legacy is what I do with my time at this moment. How am I present with the people around me? How am I grateful? How am I making this a happy moment? How am I making a memory?” she shared.

What’s Next?

With Rihanna officially back in the studio, fans are now eagerly awaiting an official release date, album title, and first single.

While she has remained tight-lipped about the details, one thing is clear: R9 is coming—on Rihanna’s terms.

And if she delivers what she’s promising, it just might be worth every second of the eight-year wait.
