Massachusetts high school diving champion Maisey O’Donnell is dead, along with two other classmates, after a car crash in Florida that occurred during her spring break.
O’Donnell, an 18-year-old senior at Concord-Carlisle High School, was traveling on Highway 98 with friends when the crash occurred on Monday, April 21 in Walton County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Students Jimmy McIntosh and Hannah Wasserman were pronounced dead at the scene, and O’Donnell and another student, who was unidentified, were transported to a local hospital, where O’Donnell later died, according to CBS News. The fourth student is described as being in critical condition.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. when the seniors’ SUV crashed into a tractor-trailer being operated by a 19-year-old driver. The SUV reportedly “went across the median…before coming to final rest in the wood line on the south side of the highway.”
O’Donnell planned to attend Williams College in the fall, she announced on Instagram in September. “I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Williams College,” she wrote in her caption.

Her coach Joe Chirico told WCVB the senior diver was “humble with a kind heart” and that other students “looked up to her” greatly. “It’s a tragedy that somebody at the top of their game, going to the best academic school, one of the best divers in the nation, was cut so short,” he said.
Tributes to O’Donnell have begun to pour in since the news of her death. One friend who was on the diving team with O’Donnell said, “I don’t know what to say. I am so grateful I got to be your best friend,” in a tribute on Instagram. “When we slept over on Saturday I didn’t know that would be the last time I ever slept over…You had such a bright future ahead of you. You were the smartest prettiest funniest girl i’ve met.”
