Tom Aspinall Details How Him Being Inactive Was A Good Thing Owing To His Health Complications
Tom Aspinall
As it turns out, Jon Jones not wanting to make the match official has been a boon. At Least for Tom Aspinall! Now, as bizarre as this might sound, it’s true. And it’s coming straight out of Aspinall’s mouth! In a recent video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Aspinall doubled down on his health issues in the past few months. And surprisingly, he mentioned that his not being active was actually a good thing. So, what happened to the UFC interim heavyweight champion?
Aspinall detailed that he caught a virus around Christmas last year, and it has been bugging him since then. While Aspinall did take medications for the virus, it tends to come back now and then. Thus, looking back at how his health has been holding up, Aspinall concluded that it was good that he did not have a match to prepare for.
“As professional athletes, we don’t like to talk about stuff that’s holding us back, like injuries, illnesses, etc. But this year, I’ve actually been ill more times than I ever have in my life… Even though I’m not active, looking back, it’s probably a good thing I haven’t been, because I haven’t been functioning at 100% for a while,” said Aspinall.

Surely, this comes as a surprising revelation from the interim champion. However, Aspinall would surely like to get back to business pretty soon. But Jon Jones not yet accepting the fight has remained a headache for Aspinall going forward in his career. Meanwhile, Georges St-Pierre doubled down on why Aspinall vs. Jones will be a must watch bout.

Georges St-Pierre is looking at the battle as a passing of the torch. He did praise Jones as one of the greatest combat fighters of all time. St-Pierre also mentioned that Jones is running out of time. Thus, with little time left for Jones to be at his peak, this would be a perfect opportunity for ‘Bones’ to cement his legacy once and for all.
“If I have to choose someone in his prime to put in the Colosseum hand-to-hand, I think it would be Jon Jones. However, nobody beats time. Tom Aspinall is on a hell of a run now. As a fan, I wanna see this fight. Tom is very hungry, and it’s up to Jon to see if he still wants to do this and if the UFC can compensate him well because I think he deserves it,” St-Pierre said on an episode of ‘BloodyElbow.’

Thus, with a lot at stake, it now remains to be seen when the fight will happen. In case Jones declines, the UFC must come up with a suitable alternative to present to Aspinall.
