The Indiana Fever launched their 2025 training camp with palpable energy and anticipation at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on April 27. With 14 of the 15 players in attendance, the team showcased a blend of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, setting the stage for a season filled with high expectations.
A Star-Studded Debut
Caitlin Clark, the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer and the Fever’s No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, made an immediate impact. Known for her deep three-point shooting and playmaking abilities, Clark demonstrated her skills by sinking several long-range shots and delivering precise assists during the session. Her seamless integration into the team’s fast-paced offense was evident, and she expressed eagerness to embrace the challenges of the professional league. “I feel like I’m in really good basketball shape,” Clark remarked, highlighting her readiness for the upcoming season.
Veteran Leadership and Team Chemistry
Aliyah Boston, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year and a dominant force in the paint, has taken on a more vocal leadership role this season. Having averaged 14.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in her rookie year, Boston’s growth and confidence are evident. She emphasized her improved strength and ability to finish through contact, aiming to elevate the team’s performance.
Kelsey Mitchell, the team’s leading scorer from the previous season, was limited in her participation due to an ankle injury. However, her presence on the court, even in a reduced capacity, was a positive sign for the team. Head coach Christie Sides noted Mitchell’s progress and anticipates her full return to form soon.
Looking Ahead
The Fever’s training camp will continue over the next two weeks, culminating in two preseason games: one against the Dallas Wings on May 3 and another at home against the Atlanta Dream on May 10. These matchups will provide valuable opportunities for the team to refine their strategies and build cohesion before the regular season begins. With a blend of experienced leadership and youthful talent, the Indiana Fever are poised to make a significant impact in the 2025 WNBA season
