UFC Veteran Slams Islam Makhachev For ‘Running Away’ From Ilia Topuria

Islam Makhachev fires a sarcastic response to Ilia Topuria's desire to fight for the lightweight title, adding fuel to the rivalry

Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria

Islam Makhachev is getting the heat from UFC veteran, Chael Sonnen. With Makhachev now fighting for a double champion status against Jack Della Maddalena, Sonnen does not seem impressed. Going off on the former lightweight king, Sonnen pointed out that what Makhachev did was a ‘sign of cowardice.’ And why is he saying so? Well, he seems to have gotten all the answers.

Speaking on the ‘ESPN MMA’ recently, Sonnen stated that Makhachev ran away from Ilia Topuria. The ‘Bad Guy’ pointed out that Topuria, who is an undefeated, number 1 ranked fighter, wanted to have a superfight. But instead of accepting the same, the Dagestani decided to move up to the welterweight division. And this is, according to Sonnen, ‘running away.’

“You have an undefeated, #1 ranked world champion who’s chasing you down… You are so interested in getting away from this guy, that you leave your belt,” Sonnen opined.

Now then, Sonnen is known for making bold statements. However, with his recent statements, it looks like he is really unhappy with Islam Makhachev’s approach. Meanwhile, Sonnen is not the only one to put the ducking claims on Makhachev. And the Dagestani’s team was swift to reply back.

@DoubleVodkaDon of Barstool Sports recently stated that Makhachev ran away from the Ilia Topuria fight. He also pointed out that since Jack Della Maddalena has just had a fight, he will take some time to come back. This means that Makhachev will have to wait significantly longer now. Hearing such accusations, Ali Abdelaziz gave a fitting reply.

“This fat motherf**ker, need to stop eating and go to the gym he should not be watching any sport or talking about any sport he’s not qualified.”

Thus, with a storm of criticisms coming in, it remains to be seen how Islam Makhachev’s future will pan out.
