UFC Veteran Drops Surprising Date For Jon Jones-Tom Aspinall Fight

Tom Aspinall delivers a bold take on fighting Jon Jones, vowing to retire the UFC legend soon

Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones

Jon Jones was just messing around with Tom Aspinall all this while! At least, this is what UFC veteran Chael Sonnen has to say about the entire scenario. Ever since getting his hands on the UFC heavyweight interim title, Aspinall has been itching to fight Jon Jones. Unfortunately, there has been no reciprocation from Jones’ end. In fact, the UFC heavyweight champion also stated that he was not okay fighting Tom Aspinall at the moment.

However, according to Sonnen, the fight has been made official by the UFC already. Speaking on the ‘Good Guy Bad Guy’ podcast with Daniel Cormier recently, Sonnen stated that he believed Jones has been playing around with Aspinall all this while. In a surprising turn of events, Sonnen also stated that the fight would probably be slated for UFC New York, 2025, in November.

“I am confident enough to tell you the fight is done. That fight is agreed all the way down to the date. That I have the confidence to tell you. Jon has been trolling, he’s been having some fun. He’s been trying to negotiate with the media… Jon Jones did NOT duck this fight. I wish he did, I’d love to bury him,” said Sonnen.

Sonnen also mentioned that Jones likes to speak a lot of things with the media, diverting their attention. However, once the UFC asks him to accept a fight, ‘Bones’ has never backed down. Meanwhile, Dana White has dropped an upbeat message on the fight.

None of the matches in the UFC can be made official without the green signal from Dana White. Thankfully, much to the delight of the fans, the UFC head honcho has decided to comment on the much hyped matchup. With Tom Aspinall longing to face Jon Jones in an epic clash, White has confirmed the fight. In a recent statement, White mentioned that the bout is almost confirmed. The UFC is just figuring out the date.

“The fight is going to happen. It’s just a matter of when now, getting it signed and done. The fight will happen. It’s going to happen. It’s done but it’s not done. Not done enough to sit right here now and announce it and give you a date. But the fight is going to happen,” said White.
