UFC legend Michael Bisping reveals his ‘disrespectful’ prediction for Tom Aspinall vs Jon Jones

Tom Aspinall vs Jon Jones is the fight MMA fans are desperate to see

Jon Jones might well be MMA’s greatest ever but Michael Bisping has made a ‘disrespectful’ prediction about how he’d fare against Tom Aspinall.

Bisping, the first British UFC champion, chimed in on the fight every fan is desperate to see this year.

Dana White and Co are yet to make an announcement but there is plenty of optimism surrounding what would be an enormous heavyweight pay-per-view.

If the fight does happen, Bisping believes Jones, who has never been beaten, would not make it out of the opening round.

‘Jon Jones has fought way better competition than Tom, but Jon hasn’t fought anyone like Tom, either,’ Bisping said on Froch on Fighting.

‘I would be very surprised. And this sounds disrespectful, but I’d be very surprised if it got out of the first round.

Jones is 37, six years older than Aspinall, and Bisping believes the younger man has every tool at his disposal to dispatch the American.

‘Listen, Jon Jones is great, and you can’t deny what he’s done in the octagon, the career that he’s had, and he’s technically unbeaten,’ he continued.

‘However, everyone meets their match eventually. I think Tom Aspinall is the new generation, he’s the new breed, and he will go down probably as the greatest mixed martial artist that we’ve ever had.

‘He’s elite as a heavyweight. A lot of the heavyweights are very good, they’re very strong, they’re powerful, but they’re not as quick and as agile and as technical as Tom

‘Tom’s the whole package. Tom’s like a heavyweight Georges St-Pierre. He’s got no weak areas. He’s got absolute knockout power, super disciplined, super agile on the feet, he finishes everyone really, really quickly.

‘However, he hasn’t gone up against somebody like Jon Jones because the competition in the heavyweight division isn’t necessarily there on a technical level.’

Aspinall has only lost once in the UFC and that was due to a knee injury suffered against Curtis Blaydes.

Other than that misfortune, he’s finished every opponent and only been taken into the second round once, by Andrei Arlovski.

He beat Blaydes in Manchester last summer and has since been waiting patiently on the sidelines, trying to coax Jones into fighting him, even taking a rubber duck into the crowd of UFC London last month.

Whether ‘Bones’ will accept is another matter altogether but the chance of a victory to rubberstamp his legacy may prove too tempting to turn down.
