Trump wins $24m YouTube payout… and infuriates liberals with extravagant plans for the cash

Donald Trump has won a $24million settlement from YouTube after it suspended his account — and announced plans to spend the funds on his lavish White House ballroom.

The Google-owned video-sharing platform on Monday agreed to settle a 2021 lawsuit brought by the president against the company for suspending his account following the January 6th Capitol riot.

The total settlement amounts to $24.5million with approximately $22million going towards Trump’s nonprofit Trust for the National Mall.

Those funds will be used to pay for construction of the new White House ballroom, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Liberals reacted furiously online. One commenter said on X: ‘Lol, a new ballroom? Really scraping the bottom of the barrel.’

Another stated: ‘Not even close to what taxpayers are on the hook for all of his golf excursions.’

And a different left winger raged: ‘Guess those soon bankrupt farmers don’t quite mean as much as a BALLROOM.’

Following the announcement, Trump wrote a post on Truth Social bragging about his latest pay day from another big tech platform.

As part of the settlement, YouTube did not have to admit any wrongdoing and is not changing its policies.

The video-sharing platform joins a large list of social media companies that have paid Trump large settlements over the last few months.

Back in January, Meta agreed to pay $25million to his presidential library in order to end their ongoing litigation. Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s X handed Trump $10million over a lawsuit for banning his account in 2021.

WSJ reports that executives at Google wanted to pay a small fine to Trump but ultimately settled on the $24.5million figure.

The remaining $2.5million will be handed towards other plaintiffs in the case, including the American Conservative Union and writer Naomi Wolf.

The total cost for Trump’s luxurious ballroom in the heart of DC is expected to cost $200million. Trump has promised to fund the construction for the ballroom alongside ‘other patriot donors.’

Over the last year, Trump has made more than $80million in settlements from large tech companies and media conglomerates bending the knee to the president.

In July, Paramount Global paid Trump a $16million settlement to end a lawsuit he brought forward over a 60 Minutes interview with former Vice-President Kamala Harris.

Trump’s lawyer John P Coale told WSJ that the president’s return to power was critical in pressuring companies to settle.

‘If he had not been re-elected, we would have been in court for 1,000 years,’ Coale said. ‘It was his re-election that made the difference.’
