Trump says ‘animal’ Democrat who fantasized about shooting Republican should be in prison

Donald Trump thinks Virginia Democratic attorney general nominee Jay Jones should be in prison for acting like an ‘animal’ in leaked text messages.

The president told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday that anyone who was caught wishing death for their political opponents like Jones did would find themselves behind bars.

Leaked text messages from 2022 showed Jones calling for former State House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his family to be killed.

One text message allegedly from Jones says that Gilbert should receive ‘two bullets to the head.’

Trump’s comments come days after Jones has threatened to sue the White House if he wins the attorney general race in Virginia.

‘You mean the one that wanted to kill some of his children and kill somebody? You mean the animal that wanted to kill somebody who should not be allowed to be running for that office?” Trump told a reporter when asked about Jones’ latest comments.

‘He’s a third-rate intellect, he’s a guy who – I’ve never seen anybody say what he said, that he wanted to kill his opponent’s children – he wanted to kill his opponent.’

‘I can’t imagine anybody voting for Jay Jones. Look, you would think he’s totally discredited. I would think he wouldn’t even be allowed to do that; anybody would be put in prison for what he said.’

‘He can join a long list of attorney generals that have been suing and losing,’ Trump concluded.

The leaked text messages show Jones telling Virginia state lawmaker Carrie Coyner in 2022 that he wants to ‘fire two bullets’ Gilbert’s head, while also comparing the GOP politician to Adolf Hitler and Pol Pot.

Jones also refers to GIlbert’s young children as ‘fascists’ during his text messages with Coyner.

Since the scandal, Jones has apologized for the texts but Democrats in Virginia have not withdrawn their support for his attorney general candidacy.

Democratic candidate for Virginia governor, Abigail Spanberger, refused to withdraw her prior endorsement of Jones or denounce his candidacy during a debate on October 9.

Moreover, Democratic Virginia Sen. Time Kaine said Jones should ‘absolutely not’ drop out of the race during a Sunday ‘Meet The Press’ interview.

‘I’ve known Jay Jones for 25-years. I think this single text exchange that he had with a colleague was very out of character for him. And that’s why I continue to support him.’
