Trump claims Biden administration investigation into Turning Point tried to force Charlie Kirk ‘out of business’

President Donald Trump has sensationally claimed his predecessor’s administration tried to silence Charlie Kirk and his Turning Point USA foundation.

In a late night Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump slammed the Biden administration as ‘corrupt and incompetent’, accusing his predecessor of investigating Kirk and the organization he founded as a teenager in an effort to force them out of business.

‘Why was the wonderful Turning Point under INVESTIGATION by “Deranged” Jack Smith and the Corrupt and Incompetent Biden Administration,’ Trump wrote, referring to the former special prosecutor who pursued charges against him.

‘They tried to force Charlie and many other people and movements out of business,’ Trump continued.

‘They Weaponized the Justice Department against Sleepy Joe Biden’s Political Opponents, including ME!’

Kirk was occasionally outspoken in his criticism of Biden on his podcast. He described him as a ‘traitor to the country’ in 2023 and questioned his right to be on the presidential ballot later that same year.

The president’s post came hours after Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley revealed that the FBI’s election-related investigation into Trump included subpoenas for dozens of Republican-affiliated groups – including Turning Point USA.

The probe, launched in 2022 under then-FBI Director Chris Wray, served as the basis for Smith to bring criminal charges against Trump, including Conspiracy to Defraud the United States.

He claimed in a post on Truth Social that former Special Prosecutor Jack Smith had been investigating Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA

Grassley and Sen. Ron Johnson, a Republican from Wisconsin, have been publishing records related to the investigation – which the bureau dubbed ‘Arctic Frost’ – since January.

Grassley revealed new documents on Tuesday listing the subpoenas the FBI had sought in the investigation during a hearing focused on oversight of the bureau.

He argued that the investigation was partisan in nature and declared it was ‘a vehicle by which partisan FBI agents and Department of Justice prosecutors could achieve their partisan ends and improperly investigate the entire Republican political apparatus.’

It remains unclear why the FBI sought to subpoena Turning Point USA as part of the investigation, though Kirk had amplified some of Trump’s claims of election fraud on his platforms.

His death sparked outrage among conservatives and sparked a days-long manhunt for his assassin.

Two days after his death, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested and charged. He is accused of firing the fatal shot from a nearby rooftop before fleeing on foot.

He is said to have targeted Kirk over his stances on gay and transgender rights, with authorities claiming Robinson held a ‘leftist ideology’ and may have been ‘radicalized’ online before he set out to kill the conservative influencer.

Robinson is now facing seven charges for felony aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury and two counts of witness tampering.

He is facing the death penalty, and prosecutors have said they will include aggravating factors – including the fact that the murder was conducted in front of small children – in their arguments as they seek to pursue justice.

In the meantime, Robinson is being held behind bars at the Utah County Jail without bond.

Kirk had been debating students and community members at Utah Valley University last Wednesday when he was suddenly shot in the neck.

He was rushed to a local hospital, but quickly succumbed to his injuries.

Kirk is credited with energizing the Republican youth movement and helping Trump win back the White House in 2024.

Vice President JD Vance also said in a moving tribute to Kirk after his death that he helped to shape much of the administration today behind the scenes.

‘So much of the success we’ve had in this administration traces directly to Charlie’s ability to organize and convene,’ Vance said.

‘He didn’t just help us win in 2024, he helped us staff the entire government.’
