Plus size Texas National Guard members viciously mocked in Chicago after Pete Hegseth warned military must get in shape
Plus-sized members of the Texas National Guard have been viciously mocked for their weight as they arrived in Chicago for deployment.
The cruel comments come after Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth demanded military personnel must return to ‘the highest male standard’ in a meeting with commanders last week.
‘Do these Texas rolls comply with commandant Hegseth’s newest fitness rules,’ one critic asked after photos emerged of troops at an Army Reserve center in Illinois.
‘Were they stationed at Texas Roadhouse,’ another added.
‘What were they guarding? The Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuit recipe?’ a third wrote, while another quipped ‘at least we know they won’t be able to run and catch anyone.’
Hegseth had warned commanders new directives were being introduced to ensure the fitness of troops.
‘I don’t want my son serving alongside troops who are out of shape, or in combat units with females who can’t meet the same combat arms physical standards as men,’ Hegseth said. ‘This job is life and death. Standards must be met.’
President Trump has been locked in a tense legal battle with Illinois Governor JB Pritzker over his efforts to deploy the National Guard to Chicago to weed out crime.

The administration will return to court on Thursday after a Biden-era judge gave Trump’s lawyers a midnight Wednesday deadline to respond to the state’s lawsuit.
But the judge did not issue any temporary orders, and on Monday afternoon members of the Texas National Guard boarded a military plane bound for Illinois in anticipation of the takeover.
Military personnel in uniforms with the Texas National Guard patch were pictured at the U.S. Army Reserve Center in Elwood, southwest of Chicago.
Trucks marked Emergency Disaster Services pulled in and out, dropping off portable toilets and other supplies. Trailers were set up in rows.
In a late night X post on Sunday, Pritzker revealed 400 members of the Texas National Guard will be deployed to Illinois and Oregon, among other locations, to deal with anti-ICE protesters and Trump’s so-called war on crime.
‘We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion,’ Pritzker said. ‘No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.
‘It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will now involve sending in another state’s military troops.’
Shortly after his revelation, it emerged that a late-night court hearing had taken place in Oregon where Trump-appointed judge Karin Immergut blocked federalized National Guard members from any state from being deployed to Portland.
Nasty comments began circulating about troops in response to Hegseth’s comments

Trump is particularly cracking down on states run by liberal governors, claiming on Sunday that Oregon is ‘burning to the ground’ after describing Chicago, Illinois as the ‘world’s most dangerous city’ and a ‘hell hole’ of crime.
Pritzker had called on Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott to ‘immediately withdraw any support for this decision and refuse to coordinate.
‘There is no reason a President should send military troops into a sovereign state without their knowledge, consent, or cooperation,’ Pritzker added.
‘The brave men and women who serve in our national guards must not be used as political props. This is a moment where every American must speak up and help stop this madness.’
Abbott confirmed on Sunday he had authorized the call-up. ‘You can either fully enforce protection for federal employees or get out of the way and let Texas Guard do it,’ he wrote on X.
On Monday amid tense court battles in multiple states, Trump openly mulled resorting to the Insurrection Act to carry out his tough-on-crime agenda.

‘We have an Insurrection Act for a reason. If I had to enact it I would do that,’ Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
‘If people were being killed and courts were holding us up or governors or mayors were holding us up, sure I would do that.’
Pritzker had earlier warned Trump was creating a pre-meditated ‘escalation of violence’ as a pretext to invoke the emergency powers.
‘The Trump administration is following a playbook: cause chaos, create fear and confusion, make it seem like peaceful protesters are a mob by firing gas pellets and tear gas canisters at them,’ Pritzker told a press conference.
‘Why? To create the pretext for invoking the Insurrection Act so that he can send the military to our city.’
