Pete Davidson’s girlfriend Elsie Hewitt candidly reveals why she chose not to breastfeed their newborn daughter

Pete Davidson’s girlfriend Elsie Hewitt has opened up about her reasoning for choosing not to breastfeed their newborn daughter.

The 29-year-old model welcomed baby girl Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson with the SNL alum, 32, late last year in December.

Hewitt penned a candid essay for Elle that was published on Wednesday where she discussed the ‘mini war within my body and my mind’ that she faces over the guilt of choosing formula.

She additionally explained how it still was the best decision for her and shed light on having ‘less moral hierarchy’ when it comes to not breastfeeding.

‘I was aware, even before pregnancy, of the quiet shame attached to formula feeding,’ Hewitt – who has been vocal about her struggles with endometriosis – said in her essay.

Following an ‘uncomfortable’ pregnancy, the media personality expressed that she ‘weighed my mental health, my recovery, and the kind of mother I want to be.’

Hewitt added that there is ‘inherent guilt in choosing not to breastfeed’ which does not vanish ‘simply because formula is safe, healthy, and nutritionally complete.

‘I still have to remind myself – and sometimes literally ask to be told – that being mentally and emotionally okay is not separate from being a good mother.’

The star wrote that she also ‘wasn’t sure the benefits of breastfeeding outweighed the demand, isolation, and exhaustion that can come with it.’

When their little girl was born, Hewitt ‘didn’t want to remain her sole lifeline in a way that would further deplete me, hinder my recovery, and leave little room for feeding to be shared between my partner and me.’

She and Davidson ‘both carry’ the role of feeding Scottie instead with formula.

And while Hewitt battles that guilt, she explained she still has an incredibly strong bond with her newborn who was ‘formed through carrying her, birthing her, and sharing a body for nearly a year.

‘That bond is sacred and grows through presence, not depletion.’

Hewitt’s decision to not breastfeed was supported by those close in her life, including Davidson and her mother.

‘And still, the guilt and pressure existed. What I felt wasn’t loud or direct,’ she said, adding it sometimes came from conversations with other mothers, research and classes.

After giving birth to the little one, Hewitt developed mastitis.

The condition occurs when there is ‘swelling and redness’ of the breast tissue, per Mayo Clinic.

‘I had decided not to breastfeed – which I was already feeling guilty about – but my body was producing milk,’ Hewitt said. ‘I was grieving an experience that I chose not to have.’

She went on to explain how motherhood is different for everyone.

‘Every baby, every birth, every pregnancy, every mother, every body, every situation, every logistic, every need, every mind, is different. Formula feeding was the right choice for me.’

Their daughter Scottie ‘took to formula with no issues’ and is a ‘healthy, thriving, and growing’ baby.

‘Feeding choices deserve more nuance and less moral hierarchy. A nourished baby and a mentally healthy mother can and should coexist.’

She added that a mother should not have to spend time ‘second-guessing’ the choice while sharing, ‘You do not have to sacrifice your well-being to prove your love.’

Late last year, it was announced that Davidson and Hewitt welcomed their first child together on December 12.

Hewitt took to Instagram to share the special news as well as uploading pictures of the newborn.

‘our perfect angel girl arrived 12/12/2025 scottie rose hewitt davidson ♥️,’ the media personality penned.

‘My best work yet, i am absolutely overflowing with love and gratitude and disbelief. – elsie. wu tang forever. – pete.’

Hewitt occasionally will give updates on parenthood by sharing sweet snaps to her main Instagram page.

Late last month, the SNL alum was asked by Us Weekly if he and Hewitt will say ‘I do’ in the future or ‘have enough kids for a soccer team.’

In response, Davidson said, ‘Yeah, we’ll do all that stuff,’ before adding how they want a sibling for Scottie.

‘We want her to have a friend, for sure. We love the idea of her being a big sister,’ the actor told the outlet.

‘The idea of making another one and making a sibling is something I’ve already been like, “I want to do it again.” They’re so tiny when they come out, and they grow so fast. It’s crazy.’
