People point out JD Vance’s bizarre reaction when asked if he will succeed Trump as president
Many people are pointing out Vice President JD Vance’s reaction to being asked whether he will succeed Donald Trump as POTUS in 2028.
It’s currently not possible for Trump to run for president again at the next election, as the 22nd Amendment prohibits someone from running for more than two terms in office.
And a natural successor in many Republicans’ eyes is VP Vance, with Trump recently being asked by CNBC who he would see as his ideal successor.
Vance was immediately mentioned – someone the president seemed to back.
“In all fairness, he’s the vice president,” Trump said. “And he would be probably favoured at this point.”
And Vance is seemingly excited by the prospect of potentially being president one day, with him hinting that he has discussed this with the president himself.
JD Vance is seen as a contender to replace Trump
While the vice president acknowledged the 2026 midterm elections are the priority in a sit down chat with Kristen Welker on Meet the Press Sunday for NBC News, Vance did touch on the future.
He said: “I see myself as a vice president who’s trying to do a good job for the American people, Kristen. And if I do a good job, and if the president continues to be successful, as I know that he will be, the politics will take care of itself. We will cross that bridge when we come to it.
“Before we talk about anything three-and-a-half years down the road, let’s take a break from politics, focus on governing the country and when we return to politics it’s gonna be to focus on those midterm elections.”
Welker then asked Vance directly if he sees Trump ‘passing the torch’ onto him come 2028.
The VP instantly laughed while a beaming smile remained on his face as he answered: “As you know, the president talks about everything. And if it’s in the news, the president and I have certainly discussed it.”
Many online have pointed out Vance’s seemingly bizarre reaction to being asked if he will replace Trump.
Trump has done countless interviews suggesting he could well run in 2028, as he previously told MSNBC: “I have never had requests so strong as that. But it’s something to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do.
“There are many people selling the 2028 hat, but this is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to having four great years, and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican.
“A great Republican to carry it forward. But I think we’re going to have four years, and four years is plenty of time to do something really spectacular.”
