Owner of Hollywood comedy club faces death threats after criticism from ‘obnoxious’ influencer sisters who created havoc open mic night
The owner of a Hollywood comedy club has said she and her staff members have received death threats after influencer sisters took over an open mic night.
The Kalogeras Sisters – Sunday, Demitra and Eliana – and their friend Noah Risling, a content creator who collaborates with them, asked to perform at the Hollywood Comedy club at the last minute on January 21, the LA Times reports.
The influencers then recorded their experience for their YouTube channel, which boasts 7.4 million followers.
Almost immediately after the video was uploaded to the site, fans started leaving scathing reviews of the venue, which received 700 one-star reviews overnight – dropping the club’s Google rating from 4.5 stars to just 1.6.
Some die-hard fans even started to send owner Jiaoying Summers and the host of the night, Barry Montoya, death threats, Summers said.
‘This is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me,’ she told CBS News. ‘This club is my baby. This is the testament of my American dream.’
Describing some of the messages she received, Summers said, ‘It’s a lot like “kill yourself, kill yourself. The owner – disgusting, ugly – should kill yourself.”‘
She has since claimed that the incident ‘triggered pre-existing serious health issues’ while she is pregnant with her second child.

Hollywood Comedy club owner Jiaoying Summers said she and her staff members have received death threats after influencers took over an open mic night

The Kalogeras Sisters, Eliana, Sumer and Demitra, attended the open mic night on January 21 and posted a video to YouTube about their experience
Speaking to the LA Times, Summers said the club’s time slots were at max capacity when the Kalogeras Sisters asked to be added to the show on January 21.
To accommodate their request, she said, the manager asked Montoya to squeeze in four more performers.
Since each comedian scheduled for the night was allocated 10 minutes for their routine, Montoya decided to bump one performer and split the drop-ins into five-minute segments each – two early on and the other two at the end of the night.
Risling and Eliana then performed at the start of the show at around 9pm, Summer and Montoya said, with the other two scheduled to do their stand-up routines later on.
But while they were waiting to go on stage, Montoya said the sisters kept interrupting, going up to the host to ask when it would be their turn.
At one point, he claimed, Demitra even confronted him while another comedian was on stage saying, ‘You said you were gonna f***ing get us up.’
To prevent any further distractions, Montoya decided he would allow Demitra to take the stage next.
Then, when the audience did not respond well to her jokes, Montoya said she started to berate the crowd with insults.

Summers said the incident ‘triggered pre-existing serious health issues’ while she is pregnant with her second child
‘She proceeded to curse out everyone in the room from the stage,’ he alleged. ‘She basically said, “F*** you guys, seriously, like f*** all of you.’
Montoya said the Kalogeras sisters and Risling left as soon as Sunday finished her set – but before they left Demitra confronted him one last time and said he was being rude to them.
‘I didn’t really exchange words with her. I just told her to have a great day and sorry that they had a bad experience,’ he recounted.
However, the Kalogeras Sisters said in their 35-minute long video that they felt disrespected by staff and attacked by comedians in the audience.
‘I wouldn’t wish that comedy club on my worst enemy,’ Demitra said in the video.
When it was later uploaded to the Kalogeras Sisters’ page, Montoya said he told his manager about what happened – at which point she sent each of them apology messages.
Still, Montoya insists that the video is ‘definitely one-sided and there’s a lot of edits, and just a lot of parts that weren’t really well-documented from our perspective.’
Meanwhile, Summers – an Asian woman – and Montoya – a Japanese Mexican American – started receiving hate messages, racist and sexist reviews and death threats, and Montoya said he had to filter his Instagram messages in the aftermath.
He was even allegedly called the n-word and told to slit his throat.

The Hollywood Comedy club has since sent the Kalogeras Sisters a cease-and-desist notice, ordering them to take down the video
As the comedy club then started to reel from the negative reviews, it sent the Kalogeras Sisters a cease-and-desist notice, ordering them to take down the video, which had 2.6 million views as of Thursday night.
‘Clearly, the Kalogeras were not interested in an apology,’ the notice said. ‘They got what they wanted… “content” that they could exploit for clicks.’
Summers also released a lengthy statement on the comedy club’s website, claiming that the influencers ‘blatantly lied and exaggerated their experience to their 7 million followers.
‘They did so for clout. It is not funny,’ the statement reads.
‘Our business is now in jeopardy and the safety of our staff, performers and patrons is at risk because The Kalogeras Sisters chose to exploit our club and our support of female comics for personal greed and clout.’
It goes on to allege that ‘throughout the night, the Kalogeras Sisters were loud, disruptive and disrespectful, filmed comedians without consent despite repeated requests, performed sexually-explicit material and jokes about minors while reading from their phones and continued behavior that made staff and performers uncomfortable.’
‘Because no one laughed at their jokes and a male comedian called out their loud, disruptive behavior, the Kalogeras Sisters made up stories claiming sexual harassment by our host and staff,’ the statement said.
‘This is deeply harmful to real survivors of sexual harassment and damages the reputation and safety of innocent male comedians.’
The statement concludes by saying: ‘At our open mic, comedians of all genders are allowed to discuss sexual experiences and roast one another in good faith. Stand up requires thick skin.’
However, it says, ‘no one is required to laugh at cringey material read off a phone, especially when cameras are pointed at other comedians without permission.’
‘Having 7 million followers does not place anyone above the rules,’ the statement said. ‘We treat all comics equally, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.’
In a statement to CBS News, a spokesperson said the sisters ‘dispute the claims and will respond in the appropriate channels.’
The spokesperson added that the sisters ‘do not condone bullying, harassment or threats of any kind.’
The sisters have also issued their own cease-and-desist order to Summers, demanding she stop posting about them and issue a public apology.
‘The [Hollywood Comedy Club] has instigated a battle with the Kalogeras Sisters fanbase, who retaliated in kind and defended themselves against the hate-filled comments and threats directed against them,’ it reads, according to the LA Times.
‘None of those comments can be held against the Kalogeras Sisters.’
As the court battle continues, Summers said she has banned the sisters from both of her clubs.
