Michael Bisping has one of the most remarkable journeys in UFC history in his pursuit of championship gold. He captured the UFC middleweight title in iconic fashion, achieving the feat three years after losing vision in one eye by knocking out Luke Rockhold at UFC 199. However, the UFC veteran has recently opened up about the harsh aftermath of his fighting career, revealing that he struggles with daily pain.

Bisping suffered a serious eye injury, a detached retina, during his 2013 fight with Vitor Belfort, which left him with permanent vision loss in his right eye. Fearing it would end his career, he kept the injury hidden from the UFC. Despite this, Bisping’s determination led him to a legendary title win, knocking out Luke Rockhold at UFC 199, a moment admired by many in the sport. In a recent interview with Mike Bohn, Bisping opened up about the long-term consequences of his career, saying:

“Last year was so bad I honestly didn’t know how I was going to continue living my life. I was in so much pain. I had three surgeries back to back. None of them helped — in fact, all they’ve done is made my condition worse. I’ve got one eye. I’ve got two total knee replacements.”

Bisping also revealed he has a torn labrum needing surgery and a large lump on his wrist that may require an operation. He added that a failed nose reconstruction using his ribs left him struggling to breathe, especially at night. Despite all of this, Bisping remains realistic, saying, “But I knew what I was signing up for.”

Michael Bisping Urges Jon Jones To Face Tom Aspinall

A former UFC star proposes a surprising alternative for Jon Jones instead of fighting the “young and hungry” Tom Aspinall

A growing wave of frustration is building in the MMA community as fans and fighters alike call out Jones for stalling his return. Social media pages have launched petitions to strip him of his title, and now respected voices like Michael Bisping are joining in. In a recent interview with Mike Bohn, Bisping said,

“Defend or vacate. You were given a shot as the youngest champ — now give others the same chance. For Jon to not want to give Tom an opportunity, where other people gave him an opportunity — he was the youngest champion in the sport, and he’s always talking about, Oh, there’s going to be younger guys coming along.”

Bisping believes that being a champion means taking on the top contenders, and if Jon Jones isn’t willing to defend his title against someone like Tom Aspinall, he should vacate it and let others have their shot. Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting a true heavyweight title showdown.
