Nickelodeon composer Guy Moon, 63, killed in horror car crash in LA as family grieve loss of Emmy-nominated star
Nickelodeon composer Guy Moon passed away at the age of 63 on Thursday as his family grieves the loss of the star.
The Emmy-nominee tragically died in a car accident in Los Angeles on the morning of January 8 and succumbed to traumatic injuries, per the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s report.
Moon had been known for working on a number of beloved animated shows over the years including The Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom.
His family issued a statement on Facebook confirming his death and wrote, ‘We are overcome with grief to announce the passing of our beloved patriarch, Guy Moon.
‘He was killed on Thursday morning in a traffic collision,’ his loved ones shared. ‘We feel singularly blessed to have been able to call him dad and husband.’
Moon’s family then paid tribute to his ‘beautiful life’ while reflecting on his ‘legacy’ in the industry.

‘As we stand together at the base of what seems to be an insurmountable grief, we are emboldened to grieve him with honor and courage with the tools that he equipped us with in his beautiful life.’
They added that Moon ‘has left an unmistakable legacy, and will be profoundly missed by us, his family, and countless others whose lives he impacted.’
The late star’s loved ones closed out the emotional statement by revealing they plan to hold a celebration of life for Moon on what would have been his 64th birthday in February 7 in Los Angeles.
Another ceremony will take place in his home state of Wisconsin.
Moon was born in 1962 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and attended the University of Arizona in 1980.
Six years later, the composer relocated to California where he began to pursue his passion for music professionally and wrote music for a variety of animated shows.
His first credit as a composer was for the sitcom Square Pegs in 1983 and he later composed for the sci-fi horror film Creepozoids in 1987.
In the 90s, Moon’s career continued to kick off when he was attached to other projects such as The Addams Family (1992), The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), The Real Adventures Of Jonny Quest (1996-1997) and Cow And Chicken (1997-1999).

Another Nickelodeon show he helped compose for was Big Time Rush and the 2012 film Big Time Movie.
He was a composer for 30 episodes on the Netflix revival show Johnny Test as well as the 2024 drama series The Green Veil.
Most recently, Moon worked on the 2025 murder mystery series titled The Artist – which premiered late last year in November, per his official IMDB page.
Hartman took to his Instagram stories on Saturday to pay tribute to Moon upon hearing the news of his passing.
Alongside a reposted photo of the late composer, the animator wrote: ‘I have no words yet because there are none adequate enough. I will be making a statement soon. Guy was my friend. My brother. My family.’
Fans of Moon and his work also mourned the loss of the star on X after learning of his death.

Throughout the span of his decades-long career, Moon had notably garnered four Emmy nominations.
