Lil Jon’s Son Nathan Smith’s Cause of Death Revealed
After Lil Jon’s son Nathan Smith disappeared earlier this month and was later found dead Feb. 6, the Fulton County Medical Examiner has issued his official cause of death.
Lil Jon and his loved ones are getting some answers after the tragic death of his son Nathan Smith.
After the rapper’s son, also known by the moniker DJ Young Slade, was reported missing in Georgia on Feb. 3 and found dead three days later outside his family’s home, the Fulton County Medical Examiner has issued his cause of death.
According to an autopsy report obtained by E! News, the rapper’s death was caused by “drowning in the setting of psilocybin use,” with the document also confirming that Smith’s blood had tested positive for “a pharmacologically active hallucinogenic compound of psilocybin—hallucinogenic mushrooms.”
The report also confirms that Smith, who was just 27, had been recovered in a water retention pond, also noting there was water-immersion wrinkling in his hands.
E! News reached out to the Fulton County Medical Examiner for comment but has not heard back.
Lil Jon’s son was first reported missing on Feb. 3 by the Milton Police Department, before his body was found three days later. Following Smith’s death, Lil Jon (real name Jonathan H. Smith) issued a statement on behalf of his family, including wife Nicole Smith.
“I am extremely heartbroken for the tragic loss of our son, Nathan Smith,” Lil Jon said in a statement to E! News. “His mother and I are devastated.”
Amid his troubling time, the “Turn Down For What” rapper made a point to reflect on his son’s legacy.
“Nathan was the kindest human being you would ever meet,” he continued. “He was immensely caring, thoughtful, polite, passionate and warmhearted—he loved his family and the friends in his life to the fullest.”

Indeed, the 55-year-old went on to share the many accomplishments, including his graduation from New York University and his work as a music producer, artist and engineer, that his son achieved over his short life.
“We loved Nathan with all of our hearts and are incredibly proud of him,” he added. “He was loved and appreciated, and in our last times together, we’re comforted in knowing that we expressed that very sentiment to him.”
