Jack Della Maddalena vows revenge for Alexander Volkanovski, promising to settle the score in his upcoming UFC battle

Alexander Volkanovski and Jack Della Maddalena

Jack Della Maddalena has accomplished his first big mission. Now, he is looking to go one step further. Leading up to UFC 315, not many people were ready to give Della Maddalena a chance. However, with his impeccable performance against Belal Muhammad, the Aussie is the new welterweight champion. And while he is surely basking in his glory, Della Maddalena is looking to avenge Alexander Volkanovski.

Soon after Della Maddalena’s victory, one thing was clear. Islam Makhachev was surely coming up to the welterweight division. Makhachev will go one-on-one against Della Maddalena, looking for his second belt. And this is a fight that the Aussie is longing for. He immediately accepted and also spoke about how he wanted to avenge his countrymen, Alexander Volkanovski’s loss.

“It’s a beautiful challenge… I’m gonna get it back for Volk,” said Della Maddalena.

For context, Della Maddalena discusses the two instances of Volk losing against Makhachev in a lightweight title fight. He also shares an interesting theory about the Volkanovski-Makhachev fight.

Islam Makhachev came out victorious against Alexander Volkanovski on both occasions. However, in a recent interaction with Mark Bouris, Della Maddalena stated that ‘Volk’ might have won the initial bout. He mentioned that Volkanovski was managing the fight well. And with Volkanovski on top in the last round, 20 more seconds would have seen the Aussie legend win.

“That was inspiring. The Dagestani wrestler nobody could really mess with him; if he gets you down, it’s over. And Volk was just having a great old time. The last round finished with Islam on his back, just absolutely wailing on him. We just needed another 20 seconds. I thought Volk won,” he said.

Thus, with things heating up, it remains to be seen how Maddalena negates the Islam Makhachev threat.
