In the UFC, the biggest goal for any fighter is to earn a title shot. But even after proving themselves, some fighters are denied that opportunity, which often leads to frustration and, sometimes, public criticism of the UFC’s top brass. That’s exactly what happened with Ian Garry. After putting on a strong performance against Shavkat Rakhmonov despite coming up short, Garry expressed his frustration openly.

The fact that at UFC 315 Jack Della Maddalena was given the opportunity over him left Garry feeling disrespected and irritated not just by the decision itself, but by the lack of communication surrounding it. Speaking to SkySports, Garry recently expressed his frustration over being passed up for a UFC title shot. What frustrated him most wasn’t just the decision, but that the UFC didn’t even reach out or consider him at all.

Despite staying active, undefeated, and consistently making a name for himself in the division, he felt completely dismissed by the organization.

He said, “To not even get a call, I felt it was disrespectful. I was just seething when I found out that they’re giving it to guy who’s been injured and hasn’t fought in a year—It’s just irritating to me that I didn’t even get the respect of a call.”

What added to his disappointment was seeing the opportunity handed to a fighter who had been out of action for a year due to injury. For Garry, this move felt like a slap in the face. He felt the UFC overlooked his hard work and progress, favoring a more hyped or historically known name over his current momentum.

Ian will headline the UFC event on April 26 in a welterweight clash against fast-rising prospect Prates. The fighting nerd fighter has turned heads with a dominant start to his UFC run, finishing all four of his opponents by knockout, each earning him a Performance of the Night bonus. Despite the buzz, Garry dismisses the hype. In a recently shared video, he took aim at one of Prates’ past defeats, labeling him a “quitter” and questioning his ability to handle adversity inside the Octagon.

Tension is building as the fight gets closer. Garry’s words have added more heat to an already exciting matchup. Prates wants to break into the rankings with a big win, while Garry is out to show why he’s still one of the top names in the division. On April 26, the talking will stop, and it all comes down to what happens in the cage.
