FBI issues update after two-day search for dad accused of killing three daughters

The FBI has issued an update on its investigation into Travis Decker after conducting a two-day search.
In June, Travis Decker’s daughters were found dead at a campsite in Leavenworth, Washington.
The girls were five-year-old Olivia, eight-year-old Evelyn, and nine-year-old Paityn, and had been picked up by their father from their mom’s house on May 30 for a scheduled visit.
But their mother, Whitney Decker, became concerned when her kids weren’t returned home the same day as planned.
She reported her daughters as missing and a few days later, Olivia, Evelyn, and Paityn’s bodies were found at Rock Island Campground.
It was later found that the girls had likely died from asphyxiation and their father was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of kidnapping.

Police are continuing to search for Travis Decker
While he’s been charged, Travis remains at large and has been on the run for almost three months. It remains unclear if he is alive or dead.
With this in mind, the FBI has been brought in to investigate the alleged murderer’s whereabouts and recently conducted a two-day search within the Rock Island Campground.
According to ABC News, over 100 personnel were deployed and 1,000,000 square meters were covered in the search which began on Monday (August 25).
Mike Herrington, special agent in charge of the FBI Seattle field office, explained that the purpose of the search was to ‘locate Travis Decker, discover signs of his whereabouts or find any other evidence of the murder of his three daughters’.

Decker went missing after the scheduled visit with his kids
It’s now been confirmed that ‘several items’ were found in the search, which are currently being examined.
“Final results will take some time,” Herrington warned while speaking at a press conference, per KOMO. He added: “Finding this potential evidence emphasizes the value in having various teams search an area multiple times, especially in such challenging conditions.”
What exactly the ‘items’ are has not been revealed.
FBI officials went on to say of the search: “A search of this magnitude and detail has not previously taken place in this area.
“We not only accomplished our goal of covering the entire area intended for this operation, but we also searched beyond the primary search perimeter.”
The FBI insists that it is ‘committed to bringing every available FBI resource that will advance this case for as long as it takes’.
While the FBI is involved, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office remains the lead agency in the investigation.
In light of Decker still being on the run, police are offering a reward of $20,000 to anyone with information that leads directly to his arrest.
