Cain Velasquez, a former UFC star, has social media on his side.
Velasquez, the former UFC heavyweight champion known for his skill in the octagon, is now facing a different kind of future as he is headed to prison.
The former two-time UFC heavyweight champion was sentenced to five years for attempted murder and other charges at a hearing Monday at the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in San Jose, California.
Back in February 2022, Velasquez engaged in an 11-mile high-speed car chase with Harry Goularte, who is accused of molesting Velasquez’s then 4-year-old son on “multiple occasions.”
Velasquez fired several shots through his windshield from a .40-caliber handgun. Also inside that vehicle was Goularte’s mother and Goularte’s stepfather, Paul Bender.
Cain Velasquez’s 10 charges ranged from attempted murder, shooting at a motor vehicle or aircraft, assault with a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, willfully discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony.
Fans took to social media and asked President Donald Trump to pardon the former UFC star.
“If Trump was worth anything, he’d pardon Cain Velasquez,” one fan said.
“Trump, please pardon Velasquez,” another fan added.
“Surely Dana White can ask his good pal Donald Trump to pardon Cain Velasquez,” a third person commented.
One final person added: “Donald Trump needs to pardon Cain Velasquez.”

Velasquez was sentenced to five years in prison Monday after he pleaded no contest in the 2022 shooting of a man he alleged molested his son.
He was arrested in February 2022 on attempted murder and multiple gun charges after police said he fired at a pickup carrying the man who was allegedly responsible.
One of his former UFC colleagues, Luke Rockhold, wants Donald Trump to bring Cain Velasquez home.
“I think it just comes down to the fact that this whole system’s wrong. He’s done his time. He’s proved he’s not a threat to society. He’s done countless things. I’ve gone with him to children’s hospitals to visit kids and see the joy that he brings people. He’s the least amount of threat to anyone in this world,” Rockhold told TMZ Sports this week.
