Dricus Du Plessis’ Coach Rips Into Alex Pereira’s Skillset, Says Magomed Ankalaev Exposed His One-Dimensional Game
Alex Pereira and Dricus Du Plessis
Alex Pereira is known for his dominant striking and knockout power, making him a feared fighter in the middleweight division. However, after his recent loss to Magomed Ankalaev, Dricus Du Plessis’ coach, Morne Visser, believe it exposed the limits of Pereira’s one-dimensional skills. They argue that while Pereira relies heavily on his striking, he struggles in other areas like grappling, clinch, and ground game, and Ankalaev’s strategy effectively showcased these weaknesses.
Talking to Submission Radio, Dricus Du Plessis’ coach has called out Alex Pereira’s limitations as a fighter. He says Pereira looked poor in his last fight, where Ankalaev outsmarted him with a brilliant strategy, even if some fans thought the fight was boring. According to the coach, Pereira’s only real weapon is capitalizing on opponents’ mistakes with his hook.
Adding to that, Morne Visser mocks Pereira’s leg kicks and says he’s weak in all areas outside striking, specifically the clinch, grappling, and ground game. He praises Ankalaev’s performance and suggests people only criticize it out of jealousy. As for wanting to fight Pereira, he says there’s no hatred involved—they just want the opportunity to go up against a big-name fighter.
He said, “Look how bad he [Alex Pereira] looked in his last fight. Ankalaev just outplayed him. A lot of people say it was a boring fight, I say it was a brilliant fight…The only thing Pereira does is he waits for you to make a mistake and then he hooks you. What else can he do? And that stupid low low of his. He’s shit in the clinch, he’s shit on the floor, he’s shit in grappling. Well done to Ankalaev, the hate comes from jealousy.”

Morne Visser confirmed that the fight with Khamzat Chimaev is still ongoing, but it won’t be happening during International Fight Week. In an interview with Submission Radio, Visser clarified that everything on Du Plessis’ side is nearly finalized, and they’re just waiting for the UFC to send over the contract.
He also dismissed rumors of injuries, stating that the fight is still in the works, just not for the originally planned date. Indeed, this fight is going to be exciting. Both Chimaev and Du Plessis bring a lot to the table, and fans are definitely in for a thrilling matchup. The hype is only going to grow as the fight gets closer.
