Pereira was reeling off defeat to Magomed Ankalaev in UFC 313’s headliner

Conor McGregor has slammed Alex Pereira’s ex-girlfriend after she celebrated his loss to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313.

‘Poatan’ saw his reign on the light heavyweight throne come to an end on Saturday night as long-time contender Ankalaev got his moment, overcoming the Brazilian on a tight points decision.

There was an outpouring of fan heartache at the result, with many projecting the more methodical, ground-based Ankalaev to be a far less entertaining champion than Poatan.

However, one interested party who wasn’t particularly disappointed about Pereira’s loss was his ex-girlfriend Merle Christine.

‘We have a new light heavyweight champion. No more chama – karma,’ she said, throwing shade on her former beau. ‘He lost on International Women’s Day, maybe that’s a sign guys.’

It didn’t take long for fighters and fans alike to respond – with Conor McGregor coming to his fellow former two-divisional champ’s defence in typical prickly fashion.

And adding to McGregor’s comment, Pereira chose to hit back himself.

‘I think she should stop mentioning my name because her husband might get jealous, chama,’ he said, commenting on the viral video.

Christine also praised Ankalaev for his performance, who managed to neutralise much of Poatan’s immense threat throughout, even without taking him to the ground.

‘New light heavyweight champion Ankalaev, congrats,’ she added. ‘He did a really good job.

‘If you guys are talking robbery, you don’t understand anything from MMA. So let’s not talk about robbery. That’s completely BS.

‘This guy won and actually, he got this title shot very very late, right? So I think we should give him some props, even if we don’t like him or don’t like his fighting style. We should give him some props.’

It was an uncharacteristic performance from Pereira as he dropped the belt, putting an end to one of the most exciting reigns in light heavyweight history.

Pereira is likely going to have the chance to rectify his title loss after UFC boss Dana White said a rematch is ‘probably’ next.

Ankalaev said he’s prepared to give the Brazilian another shot right away.

‘I never pick my opponents, so I’m very much happy and ready for a rematch,’ Ankalaev said.

‘Whenever UFC offers it to us – we’ll see what the date is – we’ll be happy to accept it.’

Pereira, one of the biggest names in the entire UFC promotion, had held the belt since 2023 and successfully defended it three times.

The 37-year-old knockout artist is also a former middleweight champion, dethroning old foe Israel Adesanya just a year after debuting in the promotion.
