California Mayor Christina Fugazi rocked as her home home is hit by gunfire

A California mayor’s house was struck by gunfire over the weekend in what police are calling a gang-related incident.

Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi told KCRA her house was struck by gunfire at around 2am on Saturday. She said she did not hear the shot herself, but her boyfriend Tremaine Manning did, and they later found a bullet lodged into a bedroom wall.

Fugazi also confirmed to ABC 10 that she and her boyfriend were OK, but were ‘shaken up a little’ by the shooting.

But police say two victims in the area were shot in what they believe was a gang-related incident, 209 Times reports.

The victims were treated at a local hospital and at least one suspect is now in custody as the investigation continues.

‘Saturday night’s events were a wake up call that none of us are immune to the realities of crime, not even the mayor of Stockton,’ Fugazi said following the shooting.

‘While violent crime in our city has dropped by more than half sine the beginning of this year, this incident shows there is still more work to be done,’ she continued.

‘I want to thank the men and women of the Stockton Police Department for their swift action and for putting their lives on the line everyday.’

‘I want to assure you, any act of violence in our city will be met with accountability and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,’ the mayor added, declaring: ‘We will not allow fear to define Stockton.’
