At least 10 people rushed to hospital after being hit by box truck on busy Manhattan sidewalk

At least 10 people were rushed to the hospital after they were struck by a box truck on a bustling Manhattan street, according to the NYPD.

The terrifying incident happened around 4pm in Chelsea Monday afternoon.

The driver of the truck was heading north on Eighth Avenue when it slammed into a parked van, causing it to go onto the sidewalk.

The vehicle hit a building as a result, according to the FDNY.

Nine people suffered non-life threatening injuries and one is in critical condition.

Police have since closed off the area and are investigating if the crash was accidental or suspicious. The driver remained at the scene.

The incident comes nearly a year after another box truck driver slammed into scaffolding on West 29 Street near Eighth Avenue in Chelsea.

A 62-year-old man was behind the wheel when they crashed and caused the scaffolding to crush three people.

All three victims were taken to the hospital after the incident. One suffered from a serious head injury.

The horrifying video footage captured a man heading towards the entrance underneath the scaffolding while pushing a cart of supplies.

But he took a step back as the truck hit the building, and just seconds later, the structure quickly collapsed right on top of three innocent people walking through – one who attempted to run to safety but was ultimately crushed by the debris.

The footage showed the man letting go of his supply cart and backing up even further before taking out his phone while at a safe distance.

The driver was then captured getting out of his truck and rushing towards the disaster, where he got on his hands and knees in an attempt to help.
