A rape lawsuit against Mike Tyson unexpectedly dismissed

A lawsuit accusing former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson of r*pe has been officially withdrawn, bringing an unexpected end to the high-profile case.
The woman who filed the lawsuit voluntarily dismissed her complaint, as confirmed by a letter submitted to the U.S. District Court. The case centered around allegations of an assault that allegedly took place in a limousine in 1991.
Daniel Rubin, Tyson’s attorney, was notified of the withdrawal by the plaintiff’s lawyer, Darren Seilback. The dismissal came after a significant legal setback on February 4, when Judge Mitchell J. Katz denied the woman’s motion to amend her complaint.

“While not surprising, given the baseless allegations, we are pleased with the result – a complete withdrawal of all claims without any compensation, concession, or settlement of any kind from Mr. Tyson,” Rubin stated. “This suit never should have been filed, and this is the correct outcome.”
The case faced complications when the accuser initially claimed the incident occurred on March 1, 1991, but later attempted to correct the date to March 1, 1990. During the February 4 hearing, Judge Katz noted that the plaintiff had failed to demonstrate due diligence in determining the exact date of the alleged incident. Additionally, the judge pointed out that the plaintiff’s medical records and a hospital bracelet indicated the event in question occurred in 1989 and was unrelated to Tyson.
Seilback, representing the accuser, expressed disappointment with the outcome. “We are extremely disappointed that the court did not allow us to amend the pleadings in the case. It’s a shame our client’s case had to be dismissed on procedural grounds. We stand by our client’s account of the events and support her 100 percent,” he said in a statement.
The lawsuit, filed as an amended complaint in January 2023, had alleged that the woman met Tyson at an Albany nightclub and subsequently suffered physical, psychological, and emotional injuries. With the case now officially withdrawn, both legal teams maintain their respective positions, though the matter has reached its conclusion.
