Kim Kardashian Makes a Bold Confession on How Her Relationship With Daughter North West Changed After Kanye West Divorce

Kim Kardashian isn’t holding back when it comes to the evolution of her relationship with her eldest daughter, North West.

Calling it the “craziest thing,” the reality star revealed that 11-year-old North has become significantly more affectionate in the years following Kim’s divorce from Kanye West. The former couple, who finalized their separation in 2022, share four children: North, Saint (9), Chicago (7), and Psalm (5).

“North is obsessed with me now and calls me with her friends,” Kim shared with her sister Kourtney Kardashian in the February 27 episode of The Kardashians. “She’s like, ‘Mom, I love you. You’re the best mom. I love you so much.’”

The SKIMS founder went on to explain how North had previously spent an entire year being distant and frustrated with her, which prompted Kourtney to point out that the mother-daughter tension coincided with Kim’s breakup with Kanye.

“I think it was all the divorce,” Kim admitted. “It’s insane, the turnaround.”

Indeed, North appeared to struggle with the aftermath of her parents’ split. In a past episode of The Kardashians, Kim opened up about how her eldest daughter often idealized living with Kanye, who is now married to model Bianca Censori.

“She’ll be like, ‘Dad is the best,’” Kim recalled in 2023. “‘He has it all figured out. He doesn’t have a nanny, he doesn’t have a chef, he doesn’t have security. He lives in an apartment.’”

Kim continued, sharing North’s frustration: “And she’ll start crying, saying, ‘Why don’t you have an apartment? I can’t believe we don’t have an apartment.’”

Kourtney, who co-parents three children—Mason (15), Penelope (12), and Reign (10)—with her ex, Scott Disick, chimed in to say that she’s had similar experiences with her own kids.

“‘Dad has the best house, your house sucks,’” Kourtney recounted of her children’s remarks. “‘His house is not super big, the vibe’s better.’” She went on to suggest that the parent who takes on more of the day-to-day responsibilities often ends up being the one who gets more criticism.

Despite the challenges, Kim sees North as a valuable teacher in her journey as a mother.

“Kourtney always says that North is my lesson on this planet,” Kim reflected in a confessional interview. “I’m supposed to learn even more about patience—she teaches me patience. She has taught me a lot about life.”

As North continues to grow and their relationship evolves, it’s clear that the bond between mother and daughter is only getting stronger with time.
