Magomed Ankalaev Gives Brutal Reply To Rumors Citing Alex Pereira Was Injured During UFC 313
Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev
After fights, fighters often reveal that they competed while dealing with an injury. One of the biggest fights in history, Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov, saw McGregor step into the octagon with a toe injury. Similarly, in the recent bout between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira, Joe Rogan revealed that Pereira fought while injured.
Weeks after Pereira’s UFC 313 title loss, Joe Rogan revealed on Fight Companion that Pereira fought with a broken hand and norovirus, questioning his uncharacteristic performance. He also referenced past injuries, including a broken toe against Jiri Prochazka and knee issues. Responding on X, Magomed Ankalaev acknowledged Rogan’s comments, stating:
“Joe Rogan mentioned his team said that Alex fought with a broken hand and Norovirus, when fighters step in the cage nobody is 100%. I was offered a rematch with him in August and I said yes, but if he is not ready I will fight whoever is next it doesn’t matter.”
Fans are now eagerly anticipating a rematch for Magomed Ankalaev. While the official date is yet to be announced, the light heavyweight champion is targeting August. For now, fans will have to wait for confirmation.
Alex Pereira Reunites with Cancer Survivor Fan
Alex Pereira
Fans know Pereira for his intense presence in the octagon, but in July 2024, he showed a softer side during a visit to The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. There, he supported a child battling cancer and even shaved the child’s head in an emotional moment. This week, Pereira reunited with the child, who has since beaten the disease. Reflecting on their first meeting in a video on X, Pereira recalled how emotional it was for him, saying,
“About a year ago or so, I came to Australia. I cut his hair at the Institute of Cancer here in Australia. It was something very emotional, very heavy for me, I cried, I got emotional. To see this guy’s recovery. He was training Muay Thai. He had to stop because of the cancer and now he’s fought against cancer, he beat cancer. A big inspiration. This is what you call fighting.”
Now, seeing the child healthy and back in Muay Thai training, Pereira praised his resilience, calling his victory over cancer the definition of true fighting.
