UFC legend and commentator Michael Bisping has once again stirred the MMA community — this time with a bold take on a potential superfight between Ilia Topuria and former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Believe You Me, Bisping reacted to rumors of Topuria eyeing a move to 155 pounds, and didn’t mince words about how he thinks that fight would go:
“Topuria’s power is different. If they ever fought, I honestly think he would explode Oliveira’s chin.”
Topuria’s Power at Featherweight — Can It Carry to Lightweight?
Ilia Topuria, the reigning UFC Featherweight Champion, is undefeated and known for his explosive striking and killer instinct. After dismantling Alexander Volkanovski in dominant fashion, Topuria’s confidence is sky-high — and talks of a lightweight run are heating up.
Bisping addressed those rumors with cautious optimism:
“Ilia at 155? That’s exciting, no doubt. But it’s a different kind of jungle up there. Still, the guy’s got such clean, crisp boxing and freakish power for his size.”
According to Bisping, if Topuria connects clean on Oliveira, it could be night-night.
Oliveira’s Durability in Question?
While Charles Oliveira is beloved for his warrior spirit and elite grappling, his chin has been tested in several high-profile fights. Losses to Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler (nearly), and Islam Makhachev have all featured moments where Oliveira was rocked or dropped.
Bisping noted:
“Charles is phenomenal, but he’s hittable. And you can’t be hittable with someone like Topuria. That man throws heat with every shot.”
Still, Bisping wasn’t completely writing Oliveira off:
“If it hits the ground, Oliveira is still one of the most dangerous fighters on the planet. He can submit anyone.”
A Stylistic War
A potential Oliveira vs. Topuria fight would be a clash of styles:
Topuria: Fast hands, powerful boxing, underrated grappling.
Oliveira: High-pressure striker with world-class jiu-jitsu and years of experience in the lightweight division.
Bisping broke it down simply:
“It’s one of those fights where it ends quick — one way or the other.”
What Are the Odds?
While the fight isn’t official or even rumored by UFC brass, fans are already debating it online. Many believe Topuria still has unfinished business at 145, while others want to see if he can become a two-division champion.
As for Bisping?
“I say give it another fight or two. Let Ilia test the waters at lightweight. But if it ever happens — man, don’t blink.”
Final Thoughts
Michael Bisping isn’t afraid to speak his mind, and his take on Topuria vs. Oliveira has added even more fire to an already-hyped conversation. Whether you agree or not, one thing’s for sure:
If Ilia Topuria ever fights Charles Oliveira… someone’s hitting the canvas.
