The Indiana Fever opened the gym to media today following team practice, with the spotlight firmly on newly signed guard Aari McDonald, who took part in her first official practice with the team under a hardship contract.
McDonald, who joined the Fever this week after a short stint in free agency, wasted no time getting acclimated. She ran with the second unit, took part in full-contact drills, and looked sharp and energetic throughout.
“It feels good to be back on the court, back in a team environment,” McDonald said after practice. “I’ve been staying ready. My mindset is simple — be a spark, bring energy, and support however I can.”

The 2021 third-overall pick previously played for the Atlanta Dream and brings a reputation as a gritty defender and high-tempo ball-handler — something Indiana sorely needs with rookie star Caitlin Clark temporarily sidelined due to a mild ankle sprain.
Head coach Christie Sides praised McDonald’s immediate focus. “She came in ready to work. We’re throwing a lot at her in a short time, but she’s a competitor and she’s picking things up fast.”

Injury Updates
Coach Sides also addressed the team’s current injury situation:
Caitlin Clark (ankle sprain): Still considered day-to-day. She did not participate in full practice but was present, moving lightly on the sidelines. “We’re being cautious,” said Sides. “She’s doing well, progressing. We won’t rush her back.”
Temi Fagbenle (foot): Remains out and is being evaluated weekly. No timeline has been set for her return.
Erica Wheeler (knee soreness): Participated in light drills. Her status for the next game is questionable but improving.

With the Fever currently sitting on the playoff bubble, the timing of McDonald’s addition and the eventual return of Clark could prove crucial.
“Our goal is to keep pushing, stay competitive, and get healthy,” Sides added. “We like the direction we’re heading.”
