At UFC 315 in Montreal, Australia’s Jack Della Maddalena claimed the welterweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Belal Muhammad. The judges scored the bout 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 in favor of Della Maddalena, whose striking dominance and takedown defense were key in neutralizing Muhammad’s wrestling-heavy approach.

This win marks Della Maddalena’s 18th consecutive victory and cements his status as the third Australian in UFC history to hold a championship title, following in the footsteps of Alexander Volkanovski and Robert Whittaker.

Following the bout, UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev took to social media to congratulate Della Maddalena — and issue a challenge. “Time to become double champ, inshallah. Let’s go!” Makhachev posted, signaling his intention to move up to welterweight and attempt to capture a second UFC title.

Della Maddalena welcomed the challenge in his post-fight interview, saying he’s ready for the superfight and even mentioned “getting revenge for Volk,” referencing fellow Aussie Alexander Volkanovski, who lost twice to Makhachev in previous lightweight title bouts.

UFC President Dana White has not yet confirmed any official plans, but the buzz around a potential champion vs. champion showdown is already heating up. With Makhachev not planning to vacate his lightweight belt, a bout with Della Maddalena could be one of the most highly anticipated fights of the year — a true test of skill, grit, and legacy across two weight classes.
