UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall has never been one to hold his tongue — and this week, he delivered one of the coldest burns yet while expressing frustration with the stagnation of the heavyweight division.

In an interview ahead of UFC 304 in Manchester, Aspinall didn’t mince words when asked about the lack of movement at the top of the division, particularly the ongoing Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic saga:
“I’ve seen snails move faster, mate.”
Oof.
What’s the Issue?
Aspinall, who claimed the interim belt in November 2023 with a stunning first-round KO of Sergei Pavlovich, has been begging for a real title fight ever since. But with Jon Jones sidelined due to injury and still locked into a planned (and delayed) legacy fight with Stipe Miocic, Aspinall has been left in limbo.

“I’m the interim champion. I’m healthy. I’m ready. But no one wants to move. Everyone’s just sitting around waiting for some perfect narrative,” Aspinall said.
His sarcasm isn’t without merit. Nearly a full year after becoming interim champ, he still hasn’t been booked in a true unification bout.
Aspinall’s Full Quote
“At this point, I’ve seen snails move faster than this heavyweight title picture. It’s ridiculous. I’m not here to be a placeholder. I’m here to fight the best — or strip the belt and let’s get on with it.”
“You’ve got Jon Jones posting photos, Stipe doing interviews… but no one’s stepping in the cage. Meanwhile, I’m in the gym every day. This division needs life. It needs action. And if they’re not gonna bring it — I will.”
Fans Are Getting Impatient Too
Many fans have echoed Aspinall’s frustration online, calling the division “frozen” and “political.” Even hardcore supporters of Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic are starting to admit the delay is hurting the legitimacy of the heavyweight belt.
“If Jon and Stipe won’t fight until late 2025, then strip them. This is getting ridiculous.”

“Aspinall is the most dangerous heavyweight right now. Why is he being benched?”

Who’s Next for Aspinall?
If Jones vs. Miocic really doesn’t happen until late 2025 — or never happens at all — the UFC may finally be forced to act:
Aspinall vs. Curtis Blaydes II?
Aspinall vs. Sergei Pavlovich rematch?
Or simply elevate Aspinall to undisputed champ and move on?

No matter the scenario, Tom’s ready.
And he’s made it clear: enough waiting.
Final Word
Tom Aspinall is in his prime, hungry, and holding a belt — yet locked out of the throne room.
His frustration is real. His skills are elite. And his patience?
Running out.
“Snails are moving faster, mate.”
Maybe it’s time the UFC moved, too.
