In a recent interview with psychologist Jordan Peterson, Elon Musk opened up about a painful chapter in his personal life, claiming that the “woke mind virus” had “killed” his child — a reference to his now-estranged transgender daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, formerly known as Xavier Alexander Musk.

Musk shared that he had signed medical consent forms allowing his child to begin hormone treatments as a minor, claiming he was convinced at the time that not doing so might lead to the child’s suicide. Musk described this as a manipulation, saying he felt “deceived” into giving consent under emotional pressure. He referred to this moment as “an utter travesty” and suggested those responsible for such transitions in minors should be prosecuted.

According to Musk, his daughter was influenced by a “mind virus” that, in his view, has infiltrated elite schools and cultural institutions. He described this ideology as fundamentally anti-parent, anti-science, and anti-merit. “My son is dead,” Musk said, using the name and identity his child was assigned at birth. “This ‘woke mind virus’ has effectively killed him.”
Vivian legally changed her name and gender in 2022 and publicly stated she no longer wished to be associated with her father in any way. Court documents revealed her desire “not to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”

Musk’s remarks have sparked widespread backlash. Critics have accused him of being dismissive, disrespectful, and of using his daughter’s identity to promote a political agenda. Others say his comments reflect a broader and troubling campaign against the LGBTQ+ community under the guise of fighting “wokeness.”

Supporters of transgender rights argue that Musk’s narrative oversimplifies a deeply personal and complex process, while ignoring the mental health challenges that many trans youth face — often worsened by lack of family support.
The incident underscores the intensifying cultural debate around gender identity, parental rights, and the growing divide over what is often labeled as “woke” ideology in schools and public life. Musk, known for his provocative opinions and powerful media presence, has now made the conflict within his own family part of a much larger, highly polarizing public conversation.
