Speaking in a podcast interview earlier this month, the billionaire tech mogul blamed what he calls the “woke mind virus” for turning his child against him and severing their relationship.

“The woke virus has infected our schools and culture,” Musk said. “It destroyed my relationship with my child. I had a son — now I don’t. My son is dead.”

Vivian, now 20 years old, came out as transgender in 2022 and legally changed both her name and gender identity. In court documents filed at the time, she wrote that she wanted “no relationship whatsoever” with her biological father.

A Father’s Pain or Political Performance?

Musk’s comments have drawn outrage and concern in equal measure — with critics accusing him of dehumanizing his daughter and using her transition to fuel a political narrative. Her mother, Justine Musk — Elon’s first wife — has expressed support for Vivian in the past, tweeting:

In contrast, Elon Musk continues to frame Vivian’s gender transition as a kind of ideological kidnapping, insisting that the shift was not authentic self-expression, but rather the result of external cultural manipulation.
