Boxing legend and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya isn’t holding back. In a fiery interview, De La Hoya declared that Devin Haney’s career is effectively over following his stunning loss to Ryan Garcia. Not stopping there, he also took aim at Canelo Alvarez, accusing him of ducking David Benavidez and demanding that the Mexican superstar finally take the fight fans have been asking for.

“Haney Is Done!”
Speaking candidly, De La Hoya didn’t sugarcoat his thoughts on Haney’s recent performance:
“He got dropped three times. He didn’t show the heart of a champion. I think Haney is done. The aura of invincibility is gone. Nobody’s afraid of him anymore.”
Haney’s unanimous decision loss to Garcia was overshadowed by controversy—Garcia missed weight, meaning Haney’s WBC title wasn’t on the line. But despite the technicalities, De La Hoya believes the damage to Haney’s reputation is real and possibly irreversible.

De La Hoya to Canelo: “Fight Benavidez!”
Shifting gears, De La Hoya turned his attention to his former protégé, Canelo Alvarez. He blasted the undisputed super middleweight champion for continually avoiding David Benavidez, the undefeated power puncher many see as Canelo’s toughest challenge.

“Fans don’t want to see Canelo fight faded names. They want Benavidez. If Canelo truly believes he’s the best, then he should prove it by taking on the best. That means Benavidez—no more excuses.”

The tension between De La Hoya and Canelo has been brewing for years, especially after Canelo split with Golden Boy Promotions in 2020. But this latest jab shows that the bad blood hasn’t gone anywhere.
With De La Hoya turning up the heat, fans are left wondering: Will Canelo finally accept the Benavidez challenge? And can Devin Haney recover and silence the critics after his shocking defeat?
