Kiefer Sutherland Arrested for Alleged Assault of Ride Share Driver

24 star Kiefer Sutherland was arrested after being accused of assaulting his ride-share driver during an incident in Los Angeles on Jan. 12, according to the LAPD.

Kiefer Sutherland is facing a new legal battle.

The 24 star was arrested on Jan. 12 after being accused of assaulting his ride-share driver in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department told NBC4 and TMZ.

Officers said they responded to a call after midnight about an alleged assault involving a ride-share driver in the Hollywood neighborhood of the city, per the outlets. When they arrived on the scene, Sutherland was identified as the suspect and accused of attacking the driver after getting into the vehicle.

No injuries requiring medical attention were reported at the time, and the 59-year-old was taken into custody on suspicion of felony criminal threats shortly after, police told NBC4.

After being booked at 4:23 a.m., Sutherland was released from custody over six hours later on $50,000 bond, according to arrest records viewed by E! News Jan. 13. An initial court date was set for Feb. 2, per the records.

E! News reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department, as well as a rep for Sutherland, for comment but has not heard back.

Three months before his arrest, Sutherland made his holiday movie debut in the film Tinsel Town, which also stars Rebel Wilson.

And while the Emmy winner emphasized that he was excited to play the lead in a “small town, heart-felt English story,” he also admitted that the Christmas comedy wasn’t necessarily where he saw his acting career ending up.

“I’ve never really had a very specific idea of where I want to take my career,” Sutherland told the Independent in an interview published Dec. 13, noting that becoming a dad to daughter Sarah Sutherland, 37, with ex-wife Camelia Kath, contributed to that mindset. “I had kids at a very early age. I had responsibilities, and I had to make a lot of choices early on in my career. There was a financial component to those choices, more than I wish there had been.”

Recalling that he “had to pass on” some opportunities, he added, “I regret that.”
