It’s not every day that a superhero movie trailer makes me sit up straight and pay attention — especially not one that centers on Superman, a character I’ve always respected more in theory than in passion. But James Gunn’s vision? That’s the exception. That’s the outlier. From the moment this project was announced, curiosity sparked in me. And now, with the official trailer finally out, I can confidently say: my curiosity has turned into genuine excitement.
A New Superman for a New Era
First and foremost, let me admit something:
I’ve always been more of a Batman guy — the grit, the grounded trauma, the detective noir. Superman, in contrast, often felt too mythic, too squeaky clean. But James Gunn is clearly setting out to change that perception — not by abandoning the ideals that Superman represents, but by reframing them in a human, grounded, emotionally resonant way.
This trailer doesn’t just tease action. It teases a soul.
A Visual Feast: Gunn’s Signature Style
We’ve seen what Gunn can do with ensemble stories and visual spectacle — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was overflowing with stylized shots, alien worlds, and heartfelt character moments. That same cinematic richness is present here, and possibly even more refined.
Take for example:
The surreal Fortress of Solitude, evoking alien mysticism without losing emotional warmth.
The kaiju-style sequence, which looks like it might give us a Superman-sized power showcase (without falling into hollow CGI chaos).
The flying sequences — including dynamic POV shots and even moments where the camera chases Superman like it’s struggling to keep up — are designed to immerse the audience, not just observe from a distance.
It’s clear that the camera will not just document Superman. It will fly with him.
Characters that Feel Alive
I’m not familiar with David Corenswet or Rachel Brosnahan’s previous work, but their chemistry here instantly pops.
Brosnahan’s Lois Lane feels ambitious, sharp, and seasoned — someone who doesn’t just exist to adore the hero but to challenge and understand him.
Corenswet’s Clark Kent brings a soft, earnest vulnerability that contrasts with the expected godlike persona of Superman. He seems like a man trying to balance a heart raised on Earth with powers not of this world.
But it’s Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor who stole the trailer for me.
That quick close-up — an off-kilter lens shot capturing the intensity in Lex’s eyes as he seethes about Superman — was unsettling in the best way. This Lex isn’t just a corporate mogul. He’s obsessed, bitter, and arrogant in the most magnetic way possible. When he refers to Superman dismissively as “it,” we get a glimpse of the dehumanization that fuels his hatred — a hatred rooted not in logic, but in insecurity. I’m fascinated to see where Gunn takes this.
A Personal Superman
What struck me most in the trailer, though, wasn’t the action. It was a single line of dialogue.
Lois asks Clark who he represents.
He replies:
“I don’t represent anything… I just want to do good.”
That moment made me pause.
Because for decades, Superman has stood as a symbol — of hope, of justice, of the American ideal. But Gunn wants to explore the man before the myth. Before he becomes an icon, he’s just Clark Kent trying to figure out what kind of good he can do — not for the world, but simply because it’s right.
That idea? Deeply humanizing.
And I’m all in for that journey.

Heart, Humor, and Humanity
We also catch brief glimpses of Superman’s adoptive parents, whose warmth and moral grounding have always been the compass for his character. And yes — we see his loyal Kryptonian dog (Krypto!), adding just a bit of levity and fun that reminds us Gunn hasn’t lost his quirky charm.
That’s the promise of this trailer: style, substance, and sincerity.
Final Thoughts: Hope Rekindled
This trailer doesn’t just market a film.
It reminds us why Superman matters.
He’s not just a god in a cape. He’s a man trying to deserve that cape. And if the film delivers even half of what this trailer promises — with its compelling visuals, layered performances, and emotional foundation — then we may be witnessing the rebirth of one of cinema’s most iconic heroes in a way that finally makes him feel real again.

So yes — I’ll be there, back row, opening night.
Because this time, I believe a man can fly…
and maybe even make us feel something while doing it.
