Ashanti’s Mom Slams Nelly for Not Helping With Baby KK: “You Can’t Just Sleep All Through the Night!”

The entertainment world was rocked this week when Tina Douglas, Ashanti’s mother, publicly called out rapper Nelly for not stepping up as a father to their infant son, Karim Keniade Haynes. The drama unfolded after a recent episode of the couple’s reality show aired, revealing the hidden struggles Ashanti has been facing behind closed doors.
“I Had No Idea What My Daughter Was Going Through!”
In a heartfelt and fiery statement, Tina didn’t hold back her disappointment after witnessing her daughter’s exhaustion.
“I had no idea what Ashanti was dealing with until I saw that episode. She’s up all night with the baby while Nelly is knocked out like nothing’s happening. That’s not what being a father is about,” Tina declared.
According to Tina, Ashanti has been quietly shouldering the burden of nighttime baby care, which has taken a toll on her physically and emotionally. For a long time, Ashanti kept her struggles to herself, but the cameras captured the reality, and Tina wasn’t having it.
“Being a Father Means Sharing the Responsibility”
Tina made her stance crystal clear:
“A real man gets up when his child is crying. You can’t leave it all on the mother. It’s exhausting—emotionally and physically. It takes two to raise a child, especially a newborn. You can’t just sleep through everything like the baby isn’t yours, too.”
After seeing the footage, Tina confronted Nelly directly.
“I told him straight: You need to step up and be a real man. Help your woman. She’s been doing it all alone while you snore. That’s not okay.”
Surprisingly, Nelly took her words to heart. According to Tina, the rapper admitted his shortcomings and promised to be more hands-on during those restless nights.
Will Nelly Keep His Promise?
Whether Nelly will follow through on his commitment remains to be seen, but Tina made it clear she’ll be watching.
“Ashanti deserves a partner who’s going to be there for her and their child. I’m proud of her for finally speaking up.”
Fans have rallied behind Tina, praising her for standing up for her daughter and hoping this marks a new chapter of shared responsibility for the celebrity couple.
