Ashanti Wants More Kids—And a Daughter!
In a recent E! News interview, Ashanti opened up about her excitement for motherhood and her plans to expand the family with Nelly. The new mom, who recently welcomed their son, revealed that she’s eager to have a daughter to balance things out.
“We’re going to add some more. Definitely a girl to balance it out. I’m outnumbered in the house right now. So, a girl would be great.”
Ashanti also expressed how much motherhood has transformed her life, describing the experience as amazing, humbling, and fulfilling.
“My life has completely changed for the better. My cup is full.”
How Motherhood Has Influenced Ashanti’s Career
Ashanti has never been shy about expressing her love for her family, and now, with her first child in her arms, she’s seeing the world through a new lens. In an interview with Parents.com, she shared how motherhood has even influenced the projects she chooses.
One example is her upcoming film, No Address, in which she plays a homeless veteran. She admitted that having a child has heightened her empathy for people in difficult situations.
“Having a child magnifies the love and the humility [that one has for their circumstances]. And sometimes I’m just so grateful for my mom, cousins, aunties, and family.”
The Story Behind Their Son’s Name
Ashanti and Nelly’s son is named Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, but coming up with the perfect name wasn’t easy. Speaking with ABC News, the singer revealed that she and Nelly went back and forth for a long time before settling on a name they both loved.
Nelly played a huge role in picking the middle name, Kenkaide, which has a deep sentimental meaning—it’s Ashanti’s father’s name. The couple affectionately calls their son “KK”.
“He [Nelly] was very adamant. He was like, ‘This is what I want, I love this.’”
