Ashanti Talks Baby No. 2 With Nelly: “My Life Has Never Been More Full of Love”

At the 2024 Baby2Baby Gala in Los Angeles, Ashanti and Nelly turned heads, but it was their shared joy as new parents that truly stole the show. Their son, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, just seven months old, has brought a new rhythm to their lives—and Ashanti can’t wait to add another beat.

Speaking with E! News’ Will Marfuggi, Ashanti radiated gratitude and happiness:
“I am feeling amazing, incredibly pleased, humbled. My life has completely changed for the better. I feel full, you know? My cup is full.”
But the singer isn’t stopping at just one child. With a sparkle in her eyes, she hinted at plans for baby number two:
“We’re going to add some more,” she teased, then laughed. “Definitely a girl to balance it out. I’m outnumbered in the house right now. So, a girl would be great.”
Motherhood: The Ultimate Encore
Ashanti’s journey into motherhood has been nothing short of transformative. She and Nelly welcomed little Kareem in July 2024, sharing the news with fans in true Ashanti style—raw, real, and radiant.
In a candid Instagram post, she posed in her Frida Mom disposable underwear, giving fans a glimpse into her “fourth trimester.”
“Four weeks postpartum. You have no idea what this body can do,” she said with pride.
Reflecting on her path to motherhood, Ashanti wrote,
“Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings!”
A Love Story Rekindled
Ashanti and Nelly’s romance is the stuff of R&B legend. After first dating in 2003, the pair spent a decade apart before fate—and maybe a little bit of magic—brought them back together in September 2023.
The proposal was an intimate, unexpected moment at home. Ashanti joked that she was wearing one of Nelly’s T-shirts and boxers, proving she never saw it coming. The couple quietly tied the knot in December 2023, just before welcoming their son.

Nelly, already a devoted father, is thrilled to see Ashanti embrace motherhood. In an interview with ET, he gushed,
“She’s an awesome mom. To watch someone care about someone else so much and give their all—it’s amazing. Sometimes it can be too far, but you’d always rather have a parent who goes too far than one who doesn’t go far enough.”
