17-Year-Old Returns Woman’s Lost Purse and Gets $3K Reward | HO
A California teen did a good deed by driving to a woman’s house to return a lost purse. Melina Marquez says a teenager found the purse in a shopping cart at a grocery store. The driver’s license inside belonged to her friend, Eliana Martin, who used to live with her, but hadn’t updated her address. They posted the doorbell video to social media hoping to find the teen. Adrian Rodriguez, 17, reached out to identify himself as the good Samaritan. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.

A California teenager recently made headlines by performing a commendable good deed when he drove to a woman’s home to return her lost purse, receiving a surprising reward of over $3,000.
Adrian, a high school student from Chula Vista, California, discovered a purse left behind in a parking lot. Instead of ignoring it or keeping its contents, the thoughtful teen decided to personally ensure it found its way back to its rightful owner.
The purse belonged to Eliana Martin, who unknowingly left it behind after shopping. Adrian found the purse in a shopping cart and, without hesitation, took it upon himself to deliver it to Martin’s home. The moment Adrian arrived at the house was captured by the home’s Ring doorbell camera. Initially confused by the unexpected visit, Martin’s aunt opened the door to find Adrian politely returning the lost purse.
“My aunt was confused initially, wondering what was happening,” explained Molina Marquez, Eliana’s relative. “When she told me later, I was genuinely surprised and touched by his honesty.”

Curious about the teenager’s motivation, Adrian was later asked why he chose to go out of his way to return the purse. His response was simple yet profound: “My mom taught me since I was little to always do the right thing, even when no one’s watching. If I lost my stuff, I would hope someone would return it to me too.”
Impressed and inspired by Adrian’s honesty and kindness, Molina and her family decided they wanted to reward his integrity. Initially, they aimed to raise a modest $1,000 as a gesture of gratitude for Adrian’s honorable act. However, thanks to the generosity of the community and others moved by Adrian’s actions, the fundraising quickly surpassed expectations, ultimately reaching over $3,000.
Molina expressed her amazement and appreciation for Adrian’s integrity, noting how easily the situation could have turned out differently: “He could have simply taken whatever was in the purse and kept quiet about it, but he chose not to. He decided to do the right thing, and that speaks volumes about his character.”
For Adrian, the decision was straightforward. He empathized with the woman’s situation, considering how he would feel if roles were reversed. This empathy and compassion have resonated widely, inspiring many who heard the story.
Adrian’s selfless act serves as a powerful reminder that honesty and kindness are still very much alive. It reinforces the importance of moral values and integrity taught from an early age, shaping individuals who positively impact their communities.
The generous reward Adrian received not only acknowledges his actions but also symbolizes the belief that goodness will always be rewarded. Stories like these restore faith in the younger generation, proving that acts of kindness continue to make the world a better place, one good deed at a time.
